JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU men's golf team opened its spring season on Saturday, falling to No. 44 Northwestern by three shots in an 18-hole match Saturday afternoon at Pablo Creek.

The Wildcats won the match with a 286-289 advantage, with David Lipsky firing a four-under par 68 to lead NU to the win.

The Dolphins got a round of season-best two-under par 70 from Justin Jones on the par-72 Pablo Creek Country Club, with each team starting six golfers and counting the low four for the team score.

"Any time that you can play a team ranked in the top 50, it is a great opportunity for your team," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "For us to come out and plays as well as we did on a course we don't know well is a good start."

Christian Martin carded an even-par 72, with Joshua Kinsey adding a one-over par 73. Matt Kleinrock had a two-over par 74 to wrap up the team score for JU.

Two freshmen got saw their first action of the season for the Dolphins and fared well. Gavin St. John Frost carded a five-over par 77 and Tim Adams shot a seven-over par 79.

The match was put together thanks in large part to UNF booster John Hayt, who helped get the tee times and arrange the event.

The Dolphins are back in action again on March 3 at the Charleston Southern Spring Invitational.
