Men's golf ties for seventh at Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The JU men's golf team dropped into a tie for seventh after shooting a 319 in the final round amid extremely difficult conditions in the final round of the CSU Spring Kick Off Invitational.

Stephen Healy was one of two Dolphins who were able to break 80 in the final round, posting a four-over par 75 to finish in 31st.

Memphis held on to beat Kennesaw State by one as the two teams shot 304 in the final round in claiming the 10-team event. Memphis' Ian Rochester posted a one-over par 72 to win the individual title 12 shots at nine-under par, 204.

"The conditions were really tough today and if you got the ball going sideways, you were in trouble," said JU head coach Jim Taketa.

Justin Jones had the top finish for JU, taking 30th but only after shooting an 87 in the final round to finish with a three-round total of 229, 16-over par.

Healy's 75 equaled his opening round score and moved him into 31st at 230, 17-over par.

Tim Adams was the only other Dolphin to break 80, shooting a six-over par 77 to tie for 37th at 235, 22-over par.

Matt Kleinrock shot a nine-over par 80 to tie for 32nd at 232, 19-over par. Joshua Kinsey carded an 87 to tie for 48th at 241, 28-over par.

The Dolphins return to action on March 10 at the North-South Intercollegiate at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Course.
