Men's golf tied for sixth after two rounds at Larry Nelson Collegiate Invite

BRASELTON, Ga. -
Senior Matt Kleinrock carded a 79 in his second round to tied for 14th while the Dolphins dropped to a sixth- place tie in the overall standings as the JU men's golf team completed the first day of the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational at the Woodlands Course of the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Ga.
Kleinrock fired a 72 in the first round to tie for third, placing just two strokes back from the lead. Junior Justin Jones (38th -- 82, 76 - 158) finished with a round of 76 in the second round to lead JU while Christian Martin (T32nd -- 79, 78 - 157) holed a 78 to round out the top two finishers on the day for the Dolphins.
"We had a rough go of it in the second round after we put ourselves in good position to start things off," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "We'll tee it up tomorrow and see if we can start making our way back up the board."
The Dolphins are currently tied with Wyoming for sixth overall with a total of 620, which places ahead of De Paul (623), South Dakota State (624), Belmont (625), Mercer (626), Nicholls State (628), Lipscomb (637), and Binghamton (641).
Host Kennesaw State leads the pack with a 518 while Campbell (605), Gardner-Webb (613), Central Arkansas (613) and Armstrong Atlantic (615) round out the top five.
Individually, Oliver West of Kennesaw State (73, 68 - 141) shot a tournament-best 68 in the second round to move into a tie for first with first-round leader Chris Wolfe of Armstrong Atlantic (70, 71 - 141). Gideon Pienaar of Central Arkansas (72, 71 - 143) is also within striking distance.
The Dolphins will complete the final round of the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invite today.
