Nov. 15, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After christening their new home court with a victory on Tuesday, the Jacksonville University men's basketball team will look to slay Goliath as they travel to face No. 1 Florida on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

The game will be televised on Sun Sports, with Larry Vettel and Bill Koss calling the action. Fans can also listen to the game on ESPN 1460-AM with Barry Milligan and Marcus Perez calling the game as part of the JU Sports Network.

The Dolphins (1-1) wrap up an exciting first week of the regular season with the defending national champions on the road. On Tuesday, JU knocked off St. Leo, 77-73, to snap a school record 25-game losing streak - the longest in the country.

"We're excited about the win, but we've got a lot of work to do," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "Florida is one of the top teams in the country and the guys are excited about the opportunity to play one of the nation's top teams."

Sophomore Marcus Allen led the way for the Dolphins on Tuesday, scoring 20 points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds while blocking a career-high six shots. Senior Jesse Kimbrough recorded 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while freshman Ben Smith had 11 points to round out the Dolphins' double-digit scorers.

The Gators (2-0) head into Thursday's contest after downing cross-town rival North Florida, 86-40, in Gainesville, Fla. on Tuesday night. Four of the five Gators' starters posted double-figures to secure the win.

The Dolphins last meeting against the Gators came last season with Florida earning a 101-58 victory at the O'Connell Center.

JU is looking to recapture some of its magic when the Dolphins stormed in on Dec. 21, 1994 and came away with a 68-67 win over the sixth-ranked Gators.
