JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - It had been eight days since the JU men's basketball team had played a game.

The Dolphins (4-5) showed no signs of rust as they raced out to an eight-point lead and came away with an 85-72 win over Coastal Carolina (3-3) on Sunday evening at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

Marcus Allen led five Dolphins in double figures with 22 points and a career-high tying13 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

Allen led the dolphin by going 10-of-16 from the floor as JU hit more than 54.7 percent of its shots from the floor, the first time this season that the Dolphins had hit more than 50 percent in a game.

"We shot the ball extremely well tonight," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "We did a good job of pushing the ball up the floor and making plays in transition, which created some great looks on offense while we finished the game by hitting shots at the free throw line and taking care of the basketball."

Joining Allen in double figures was the quartet of Lehmon Colbert with 16, Jesse Kimbrough with 12 along with Corey Claitt and Tyrone Curnell with 10 apiece.

The Dolphins three-game losing streak came to with some help on the glass, where JU held a 38-27 advantage. The Dolphins pulled down 12 offensive rebounds, seven by Allen, on their way to 14 second chance points.

The Dolphins broke the game open early, going on a 9-0 run midway through the first half to turn a tie at 11 into a 20-11 lead. Coastal cut the lead to six at one point, but JU was able to extend the lead back to eight at the intermission with a 3-pointer by Kimbrough.

JU then raced out to start the second half, going on a 11-2 run over the first four minutes to take a 49-32 lead. Three-pointers sparked the rally, as Kimbrough hit his second of the game and Evan Jefferson added a triple in transition.

But Coastal rallied, going on a 16-4 run, capped by seven straight points by Moses Sonko, to cut the JU lead to 53-48 with just 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Dolphins were not to be denied as they answered with a 12-3 run to take a 65-51 lead with 6:35 left in the game.

Coastal was able to cut the lead back to six, but would get no closer as the Dolphins iced the game by hitting 10-of-12 from the free throw line in the final four minutes for the 85-72 victory.

Sonko led Coastal with 23 points and seven rebounds. Jack Leasure had 13 points while Joshua Mack had 11. Steve Sexton added 10 as well for Coastal.

The Dolphins return to action against nationally ranked Texas A&M on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 8 p.m. (EST).
