Jan. 8, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After helping JU to two straight Atlantic Sun Conference wins, sophomore Marcus Allen was named Atlantic Sun Conference "Player of the Week" as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Allen put up two monster efforts in guiding the Dolphins to their first conference wins since 2005. He opened the week with 11 points and eight rebounds against Garnder-Webb before scoring 15 points and pulling down a career-high 18 rebounds against Campbell.

"Marcus had an exceptional week and is very deserving of this honor," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "But Marcus wasn't the only guy that played well, we had a lot of great efforts last week which helped us win."

Allen's two big games were aided by stellar scoring efforts around him. Against Gardner-Webb, Jesse Kimbrough scored a team-high 14 points with Corey Claitt and Evan Jefferson bombing away from outside with 10 apiece.

Against the Camels, freshman Tyrone Curnell stepped up with a season-high 20 points to lead four Dolphins in double figures. Allen pulled down 18 rebounds, the most by a Dolphin in two seasons.

Joining Allen was Kimbrough, who scored 17 points while dishing out four assists. Ben Smith was also a catalyst in that game, dishing out nine assists while scoring seven points.

Allen is the first Dolphin to earn the conference's weekly honor since late in the 2005 season.

JU is back in action on Tuesday as the Dolphins face rival North Florida. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
