Men's hoops starts A-Sun Tournament run on Thursday

Feb. 28, 2007

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - March Madness begins for the Jacksonville men's basketball team on Thursday as the Dolphins face Campbell in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament at 3:15 p.m.

It is the third meeting this season between the two teams, with each team winning on their home floor.

"Campbell is a very athletic and aggressive team that plays with a lot of intensity every time out," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "Our focus has been to keep working on what we do and get better as a team, just like we have done all season."

Jacksonville (15-13, 11-7 A-Sun) finished the regular season by winning five of the last seven games - including an upset of A-Sun regular season champion ETSU at home.

The Dolphins need one more hot streak this season. All eight teams that have advanced to the tournament are just three wins away from advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

JU has been adept at three-game winning streaks this season, having piled up three wins in a row on three occasions.

But there is more on the line than just that. The Dolphins are chasing the team's first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1986 and first postseason bid since going to the NIT in 1987.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN 1460 locally with Barry Milligan calling the play-by-play, with the pregame show starting at 3 p.m. Fans can also watch the game live on the Internet by following the link below.
