May 7, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Cliff Warren's search for an athletic wing player came through with another top-notch recruit as Ayron Hardy has signed on to join the JU men's basketball team for the 2007-08 season.
Hardy, who will graduate from Huffman High School in Birmingham, Ala., was ranked seventh by The Birmingham News as one of the state of Alabama's 12 "Super Seniors."
"He's an athletic wing, who's very versatile and can play a number of positions," Warren said. "He's a very intelligent player who comes from a very good basketball program at Huffman that has sent several players to college the past few years. We look forward to using his versatility on the court."
A 6-foot-5 swingman, Hardy was named team captain, best offensive and defensive player as well as most valuable player at Huffman after averaging 15.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 3.5 assists per game as a senior.
During his sophomore and junior season, Hardy was a member of back-to-back state Final Four teams - advancing to the championship game in 2006.
A strong outside shooter, he led the team in the 3-pointers each of his three full seasons on the varsity. He also is a tenacious defender, racking up more than 100 steals in a season.
Outside of his stellar high school career, Hardy played AAU ball for the Birmingham Raptors for three years and also played for the Birmingham Senior All-Star Showcase (East team).
