May 18, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville men's basketball team rounded out its recruiting class on Friday with the addition of Neptune Beach-native Brian Gilbert.

Gilbert, a 6-foot-6 guard and forward, joins the Dolphins after playing the past two years at Florida Community College-Jacksonville. Prior to that, Gilbert was a star at Providence High School in Jacksonville.

"With the addition of Brian to our program, it gives us added depth and another 3-point threat that we were focusing on in recruiting," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "He has a high basketball IQ, which is something that we were looking for in all of our players this year."

During his sophomore campaign at FCCJ, Gilbert was red-hot from behind the 3-point line and was also creative in dishing the ball to his teammates. He hit 39 3-pointers during the season while dishing out 63 assists - an average of more than two per game.

Gilbert also excelled in the classroom, earning the team academic award in each of his two seasons with the Stars.
