Football Announces 2000 Schedule

July 22, 2000

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Six home games, four scholarship opponents, a trip to Des Moines, Iowa in November and a season finale at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando highlight Jacksonville University's 2000 football schedule, announced by head coach Steve Gilbert today.

The Dolphins will play a full 11-game schedule for the first time, including six home contests at Milne Field on the JU campus, and a semi-home game against Fairfield at the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando on Nov. 24. JU will also play four scholarship opponents (Lenoir-Rhyne, Tusculum, Charleston Southern and Virginia-Wise), including two of the first three games of the season, and will travel to Des Moines, Iowa on Nov. 4 to take on Drake, one of the top home teams in Division I-AA.

"It is time to raise the bar," says Gilbert as he prepares JU's non-scholarship program for its third season of competition. "Our schedule is starting to reflect the direction we want to go with the program. We want to be one of the best teams in the country at our competition level. We feel we can stack up with anybody on our schedule, but every week is going to be a battle."

The Dolphins' home schedule, which opens on Sept. 2, features Lenoir Rhyne, Tusculum, Austin Peay, Stony Brook, Monmouth and Wagner. Homecoming will be against Monmouth on Nov. 11, and the season finale against Fairfield on Nov. 24 will be the first night game in school history with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

Season and individual game tickets are available by calling the JU Athletic Ticket Office at (904) 745-7407.
