Football Names Ed Stults Offensive Coordinator

June 5, 2001

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Ed Stults has been named offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Jacksonville University, head coach Steve Gilbert announced today. Stults replaces Greg Boyce who left after two seasons to become offensive coordinator at Monmouth University (N.J.).

Stults most recently served as assistant head coach/offensive coordinator at California University of Pennsylvania from 1996-2001, where he also coached the quarterbacks and offensive line. The Vulcans were one of the top-ranked rushing teams in NCAA Division II and improved from two wins prior to his arrival to multiple five-win seasons. Prior to coaching at Cal U., Stults was the head coach at Defiance College (Ohio), where he posted a 9-11 overall record in his two seasons at the helm.

"Ed brings a wealth of experience to our coaching staff," says Gilbert, who will lead the Dolphins into the Pioneer Football League this fall in the program's fourth season of competition. "He is a polished coach who has worked with all facets of the offense, and will bring great leadership abilities to JU football."

From 1989-94 Stults served as the offensive line coach and running game coordinator at Edinboro University (Pa.), one of the top Division II programs in the nation. He helped lead the Fighting Scots to national playoff appearances in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 1993, while consistently ranking in the top-10, including a No. 3 ranking in 1992. Edinboro won Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships in 1989 and 1992, while leading the conference in rushing on two occasions. While at Edinboro, Stults coached three All-Americans and helped five players receive professional football opportunities.

Stults began his coaching career as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Bluffton College (Ohio) from 1980-88, where he had stints as linebacker coach, offensive line coach and defensive coordinator before becoming an assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati in 1988. Stults earned his B.A. in elementary education from Bluffton in 1980 following a four-year football career as an all-conference linebacker.
