JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Mike Sturgill threw two touchdown passes, including a 4-yarder to Justin Knowles with 6:29 remaining, as Jacksonville defeated Coastal Carolina 14-9 on Saturday.

The touchdown pass to Knowles capped a 16-play, 77-yard drive, on which Sturgill was 6-of-7 for 53 yards.

Sturgill threw for 153 yards and Emmett Hunter rushed for 78 more for Jacksonville (2-1), which recorded its fifth straight win over a scholarship opponent. Jimmy Willman caught an 11-yard pass from Sturgill in the second quarter to give Jacksonville a 6-0 lead and complete a 10-play, 94-yard drive.

Coastal Carolina, in its first year of football and playing its first-ever road game, drove to the Jacksonville 35 in the closing seconds but got no closer. Freshman running back Aundres Perkins rushed for a game-high 117 yards and Rodney Burgess caught 10 passes for 110 yards for the Chanticleers (1-2).

Coastal Carolina, which outgained Jacksonville 346-265, took a 9-6 lead on Josh Hoke's 24-yard field goal with 13:01 remaining. Ren McKinnon, one of two quarterbacks the Chanticleers used, had a 30-yard run for his team's lone touchdown.
