Emmett Hunter Sets All-Time Rushing Record in 55-12 Loss to FIU
Oct. 30, 2003
MIAMI (AP) - Josh Padrick threw for 232 yards and three first half touchdowns as Florida International beat Jacksonville University, 55-12 Thursday night.
Running backs Diamos Demerritt and Adam Gorman combined for 259 rushing yards as the Golden Panthers piled up a school record 642 total yards despite a continuous downpour. Running back Emmett Hunter's record-breaking day was the only bright spot for the Dolphins. Hunter rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown to set the school record for career rushing yards with 2,148.
Padrick produced the first score when he connected with Cory McKinney on a 55-yard touchdown pass four minutes into the game. McKinney finished with three catches for 90 yards.
Jacksonville had a chance score on the next possession with four efforts from inside the FIU 6-yard line. On fourth down, JU's fake field goal failed and opened the door for FIU to take command of the game.
FIU then went on to score 14 points in less than two minutes to expand its lead to 21-0 late in the first quarter. Padrick took it himself for a 3-yard quarterback draw on the first score.
After FIU recovered its own kickoff, Padrick struck again, hitting Harold Leath for a 16-yard touchdown pass. FIU used its rushing game to run up another 21 points in the second quarter with touchdown runs by Demerritt and Gorman. Leath finished the first-half scoring with a 32-yard touchdown catch as FIU took a 41-0 halftime lead.
