Men's Golf Finishes 10th At A-Sun Championship

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - JU freshman Seiji Hirai (Hagerstown, Mass.) shot a final-round 72 to finish with a six-over-par 222 (75-75-72) en route to a 26th place finish at the Atlantic Sun Championship as the Dolphins fired a final-round 300 to place 10th with a 901 (304-297-300) at the par-72, Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, N.C. UCF captured the team championship with a 19-under 845 (281-276-288) to earn the A-Sun's automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA Men's Golf Regionals in May.
Freshman Jamie Kennedy (Edinburgh, Scotland) fired an 8-over 224 (78-72-74) to tie for 31st, while freshman Duncan Stewart (Moray Shire, Scotland) shot a 227 (76-76-75) to finish in a tie for 40th. The Dolphins' top player all season, freshman Russell Knox (Inverness, Scotland), shot a 233 (80-74-79) to place 48th and sophomore Mattias Eriksson (Landskrona, Sweden) fired a 236 (75-79-82) to tie for 52nd.
Georgia State finished second with an 851 (284-275-292) to edge out host Campbell, which fired an 11-under 853 (284-286-283) to place third. Troy State (296-282-284=862) finished fourth and Gardner-Webb (295-283-290=868) placed fifth to round out the top five. UCF's Barry Roof shot an 11-under-par 205 (68-68-69) to edge out Campbell's Braxton Wynns (69-70-68) by two strokes for individual medallist honors.
