Oct. 5, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Duncan Stewart couldn't have started his season any better.

Two tournaments turned into two wins and for his efforts he was named Atlantic Sun Conference "Golfer of the Month" for his stellar play in September, sharing the honor with Campbell Kyle Spahr.

Stewart now has a racked up seven career titles, the most at JU since 1993, and has won his last four regular-season events dating back to last season.

"Duncan has worked extremely hard on this game over the summer which carried him to the third round of match play in the British Amateur," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "He continues to work very diligently on his game and constantly encourages everyone to do the same. This is a well-deserved award considering the caliber of golfers we have in the A-Sun."

Stewart currently leads the team with a 69.8 stroke average and out of five rounds this season, he has gone under par in four of them. He is ranked 36th in the initial GolfStat individual rankings, released on Wednesday.

While Stewart has won individual titles, his play has been backed by his teammates as the Dolphins have won their first two tournaments of the season as well, extending their regular-season winning streak to four straight tournaments.

JU puts its winning streak on the line in the prestigious Duke Coke Classic, starting with 36 holes on Monday and wrapping up with the final round on Tuesday morning.
