Jacksonville Streaks To TAAC Lead With 3-1 Win Over Mercer

Jacksonville, Fla. - Jacksonville University (11-1, 4-0) got two goals from the reigning TAAC Player-of-the-Week, sophomore Bole Acimovic, to defeat Mercer University (9-3-1, 3-1) by the score of 3-1 in men's soccer action here Tuesday afternoon. The victory was the fifth in a row for the 12th ranked (Soccer America) Dolphins.

Jacksonville senior Mladen Dikic (13) opened the scoring for the Dolphins at 11:19 on a penalty kick set up by Acimovic. After stealing the ball in the mid-field, Acimovic beat two defenders before being tackled from behind by a third just inside the penalty box. The score remained 1-0 until the 44:12 mark when Acimovic worked a give-and-go with sophomore Hope Chiota and then beat the Bear goalkeeper for his twelfth goal of the season.

Acimovic (13) scored his second goal of the game, and eighth in the last three games, at the 53:12 mark to give the Dolphins a 3-0 lead. Chiota picked up his second assist of the game on the goal. Mercer broke up the Jacksonville shutout at 73:12 on a goal by sophomore Salvadore Chillemi. Sophomore Maxwell Rooke picked up the assist for the Bears.

Junior goalkeeper Petar Popovic made four saves for the Dolphins, while senior David Jetton turned away five shots for the Bears.

The Dolphins will return to action on Saturday, October 16th at 4:00 P.M. when they take on Alabama A&M on the road.
