Popovic Earns TAAC Co-Defensive Player-of-the-Week Honors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jackonville University goalkeeper Petar Popovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) earned Trans America Athletic Conference Soccer Co-Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors as announced by the league office Monday.

Popovic recorded nine saves on 25 shots to lead the Dolphins to a 3-0 TAAC victory over Georgia State and a 1-1 tie versus league leader Mercer. The senior goalkeeper leads the TAAC in goals allowed average (1.05) and has only allowed seven goals on 81 shots. Popovic, who has 35 wins in his career, is just four wins shy of JU's individual career win record of 39 set by Dave Kane (1967-70).

As a team, JU is second in the league in scoring (1.88 goals per game) and fifth in goalkeeping (2.07 goals against average). The Dolphins are 4-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play.

The men's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 10 as the Dolphins host TAAC foe UCF at 4 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex.
