Men's Soccer Falls To Stetson, 4-0

Senior goalkeeper Petar Popovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) had eight saves, but it was not enough as the Jacksonville University men's soccer team lost to Stetson, 4-0, Tuesday evening at the Stetson Soccer Complex.

The loss was the first of the year for JU in TAAC play as the Dolphins fall to 5-5-3 on the year and 2-1-3 in league action. With the win, Stetson improves to 7-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Stetson's J.R. Cosadonte scored a pair of goals and Kjell Aasheim added a goal and an assist in the Hatters' victory.

Scott Winch opened the scoring with a shot from 17 yards out to give Stetson a 1-0 lead 9:23 into the contest. Casadonte scored his first goal off a through ball from Mauricio Bermudez with less than 14 minutes to play in the half to give Stetson a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Casadonte opened the scoring in the second stanza at the 57:06 mark after Aasheim blocked a punt from Popovic. Aasheim capped off the scoring with a goal off a pass from Watkins with less than five minutes left to play.

JU's Hamdy Bonin (Lower Caldecote, England), Michael Blackburn (Arlington, Texas), Mladen Dikic (Lovran, Croatia) and Justin Lloyd (Cocoa, Fla.) each had two shots, but Stetson outshot the Dolphins 18-11. Hatter goalkeeper Tim Riek tallied four saves in the shutout.

JU returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 26 when the Dolphins play host to Alabama A&M at 3 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex.
