Rowing to compete in 70th annual Dad Vail Regatta

JU rowing will send six boats to compete in the prestigious Dad Vail Regetta this Friday & Saturday, on the Schulykill River in Philadelphia, Pa. The Men's Varsity 8, the Men's Junior Varsity 8, the Men's Freshman 4, the Women's Varsity 4, the Women's Freshman 4 and the Women's Pair will compete in the 70th annual regatta, which features more than 100 colleges and 3,300 rowers from the United States and Canada.
The event will showcase 498 events and 19 different race categories with qualifying heats on Friday. Schools qualify in the initial races will move on to semifinal heats on Saturday, with the event finals being held late Saturday.
The Women's Varsity 4 with coxswain Jill Sarno, Stephanie Bechtold, Adelina Anderson, Jennifer Barker and Jessica Tuten will start things off at 8:52 a.m. against John Carroll, Dowling, Carnegie Mellon, Lawrence and Temple. The top two finishers from the nine heats will move on to three Semi-Finals on Saturday (9:42-9:56 a.m.). The top two from each Semi-Final will compete for the Margaret McNiff Trophy in the Final at 3:05 p.m.
The Women's Pair with Kelly Burke and Kate Gout will compete at 10:09 a.m. against Marquette, Bowdoin and New York. The top three finishers from five heats will move on to three Semi-Finals on Saturday (8:14-8:28). The top two from each Semi-Final will compete in the Final at 2:05 p.m.
The Men's Varsity 8 with coxswain Jessica Marchant, Matthew D'Amico, Richmond Jones, Tyler Humphrey, Greg Boccieri, Adam Heine, Patrick Lura, Dylan Kosten and Stefan Negaard will compete on Friday at 10:28 a.m. against Lafayette, Emory, Santa Clara and Ohio State. The top two finishers from six heats will compete in three Semi-Finals on Saturday (11:11-11:21 a.m.). All other finishers not placing last will move on to three Repecharge Heats on Friday (2:52-3:02 p.m.), in which the top two finishers will also move on to the Saturday Semi-Finals. The top two finishers from each Semi-Final will then compete for the Richard O'Brien Trophy in the Final at 4:35. The rest of the Semi-Final participants will compete in the Second Final at 4:05 p.m.
The Men's Freshman 4 with coxswain Jamie Goldstein, Matt Repici, Kevin Friedlander, John Gerety and Chris Barse will compete at 12:20 p.m. against Northwestern, Rhode Island, Washington College, St. Joseph's and Georgia. The top two finishers from nine heats will compete in three Semi-Finals on Saturday (10:03-10:17). The top two finishers in each Semi-Final will compete for the Thomas A. Curran Trophy in the Final at 3:15 p.m.
The Women's Freshman 4 made up of coxswain Claire Futo, Candace Barber, Danielle Fournier, Julia Fairchild and Karylina Greer will compete at 1:44 p.m. against American, Northwestern, Binghamton and Susquehanna. The top two finishers from nine heats will move on to three Semi-Finals on Saturday (7-7:14). The top two from each Semi-Final will compete in the Final at 1:05 p.m.
The Men's Junior Varsity 8 consisting of coxswain Anthony Magro, Erich Negaard, Lucas Meers, Chris Carter, Bradley Woodrum, Sebastian Kuhn, Michael Scully, Ryan O'Donnell and Joey Civello will race on Friday at 4:56 p.m. against Ohio State, Maryland CP, Grand Valley and Florida. The top two finishers from four heats will compete in two Semi-Finals on Saturday (9:11-9:16). The top three finishers from each Semi-Final will then compete for the Ernie Bayer Trophy in the Final at 2:15 p.m.
