COLUMBIA, S.C. - Senior goalkeeper Greg Williams (Hopewell, N.Y.) made five saves as JU fell to South Carolina, 4-0, in the Gamecock Classic Friday night at Eugene E. Stone III Stadium. Ayo Akinsete led the Gamecocks with a goal and an assist, while Anthony Stovall, Ryan Deter, and Jack Cummings each scored for South Carolina, which is currently ranked 16th in the NSCAA men's soccer poll. JU falls to 1-3-1, while South Carolina improves its record to 5-0.

Stovall put the Gamecocks on the board in the 23rd minute when he took a pass from Akinsete and scored to make it 1-0. Just under two minutes later, Williams deflected an Eric Szeszycki shot directly towards Deter who then netted his fourth goal of the season. Deter's goal gave the Gamecocks a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

With 23 minutes left in the second half, Lawson Vaughn connected with Cummings, from 20 yards out, to give the Gamecocks a three-goal lead. In the 68th minute, the Gamecocks were awarded a penalty kick after Akinsete was tripped in the box. Akinsete's successful penalty kick gave the Gamecocks a 4-0 advantage over the Dolphins. Brad Guzan collected six saves in goal for South Carolina and earned the shutout.

The Dolphins return to action when they face the College of Charleston in the South Carolina Gamecock Classic on Sun., Sept. 14th at noon.
