Nov. 12, 2003

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU senior defender Brett Surrency (Gainesville, Fla.) earned First-Team Atlantic Sun All-Conference honors for men's soccer, while freshman midfielder Tyler Stansberry (McAllen, Texas) was named to the All-Freshman Team, announced by the league office Wednesday.

Surrency, who started in all 17 matches for the Dolphins this season, led a JU defensive unit that had to overcome injuries to 2002 First-Team Atlantic Sun defender Nick Comerford (Gainesville, Fla.), who missed the entire season, as well as goalkeeper Greg Williams (Hopewell, N.Y.), who missed five games. He scored his lone goal of the season in a 1-1 tie against USF on Aug. 31. Surrency finished his career at JU having started all 63 matches he played in, while scoring seven goals and dishing out three assists.

Stansberry tied for second on the Dolphins in points (7) with two goals and three assists. He appeared in all 17 matches, while making 14 starts, and scored the game-winning goal against Wofford at the JU/Best Western Shootout on Sept. 5. Stansberry also netted a goal in the season finale at Stetson, while recording assists against both Mercer and Florida Atlantic.

JU, which was ravaged by injuries throughout the year, finished the season with a record of 3-11-3, 2-6-1 in the A-Sun.
