Men's Soccer Picked Ninth in Atlantic Sun Preseason Poll

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University men's soccer team was picked ninth in the Atlantic Sun Conference preseason coaches' poll, the conference office released today. The Dolphins begin their first season under former standout Mike Johnson, who spent the last six seasons as JU's women's coach. JU opens exhibition play Tuesday, Aug. 24 vs. Embry-Riddle at the Ashley Sports Complex at 5 p.m.

The Dolphins return eight starters from the 2003 squad which went 3-11-3, including senior goalkeeper Greg Williams (Hopewell, N.Y.) and senior forward Richard Blackburn (Jacksonville, Fla.). Fifth-year senior Nick Comerford (Gainesville, Fla.) also returns after missing last season with a knee injury.

Defending A-Sun tournament and regular-season champion UCF was picked to win the league. Florida Atlantic was tabbed to finish second followed by Georgia State, Mercer and Stetson, respectively.
