Men's Soccer Ties Embry Riddle 1-1 in Exhibition Match
Aug. 24, 2004
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -
Embry Riddle's goal by Liam McIlhatton in the 76th minute erased a 1-0 JU lead as the Dolphins and Eagles battled to a 1-1 tie in an exhibition match Tuesday evening at the Ashley Sports Complex. JU freshman defender Austin Earl (Vero Beach, Fla.) headed a ball past Eagles' goaltender Ryan Moate off a Nick Comerford (Gainesville, Fla.) free kick in the 15th minute for the Dolphin's lone goal.
The Dolphins got 60 solid minutes from senior goalkeeper Greg Williams (Hopewell, N.Y.), who played the first two 30-minute periods, notching three saves without allowing a goal. Embry Riddle comes into the season ranked fourth in the NAIA after an 18-2-1 campaign in 2003.
The Eagles outshot JU, 13-9, but the Dolphins had the advantage in corner kicks, 7-4. Embry Riddle received six yellow cards in the contest.
The Dolphins return to action Saturday in their final exhibition match vs. Georgia Southern at 5 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex.
