Men's Soccer Loses Season Opener to USF 3-2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University men's soccer team fell behind early and came up just short in their comeback attempt, losing 3-2 to USF at the Ashley Sports Complex to open the 2004 campaign. The Dolphins pulled within one with two minutes to go after sophomore forward Tommy Krizanovic (Jacksonville/Englewood) trickled a shot past Bulls goalkeeper Dane Brenner off a senior forward Richard Blackburn (Jacksonville/Orange Park) direct kick, but JU failed to get another shot on goal.

USF got the game-winning goal when Kevin King took advantage of a one-on-one situation against senior goalkeeper Greg Williams (Hopewell, N.Y.) in the 62nd minute. Junior midfielder Brian Blackburn (Jacksonville/Orange Park) answered with the Dolphins' first goal of the season off a direct kick in the 66th minute.

USF put points on the board early in the match when Simon Schoendorf scored on a penalty kick in the eighth minute to give the Bulls the early 1-0 lead. Schoendorf struck again in the 22nd minute, beating Williams one-on-one to put USF up, 2-0.

The Bulls outshot the Dolphins, 12-5, and took more corner kicks 5-4. JU faced nine shots on goal, compared to USF seeing only three.
