Nov. 4, 2004
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University men's soccer team fell short in its attempt to extend the 2004 season, losing, 1-0, to UCF Thursday afternoon at the Ashley Sports Complex. The loss eliminated the Dolphins (8-8-1, 3-5-1 A-Sun) from the sixth and final spot in the Atlantic Sun Championship, being held in Macon, Ga., Nov. 11-13.
The Golden Knights (8-5-2, 7-2 A-Sun) scored the eventual game-winner in the 67th minute when Adam Holden got behind the JU defense at the top of the penalty box and shot past drawn-out JU goalkeeper Gerrit deBoer (Yulee, Fla.).
The Dolphins saw their best chance to tie up the match slip away as three shots inside the penalty box were saved in a span of seven seconds. Senior Richard Blackburn (Orange Park, Fla.) took a header shot that was deflected by UCF keeper Ryan McIntosh. Senior Nick Comerford (Gainesville, Fla.) and sophomore Tommy Krizanovic (Jacksonville/Englewood) saw their shots on rebounds saved by the Golden Knights' defense.
