Aug. 16, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- - Senior Tommy Krizanovic scored two goals in the second period of a three-period exhibition to help the Jacksonville University men's soccer team defeat the local Beaches Adult Soccer League All-Star squad, 2-1, on Wednesday night at the Ashley Sports Complex.

"I saw some good things from this match," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "Tommy scored on both of his opportunities from two excellent passes, while the defensive backline played really well. Overall, it was a good win because there were some great former college players on that team."

Krizanovic, who scored a career-high 17 goals in 2005, broke a scoreless tie with less than five minutes in the second frame by beating former Dolphins goalie, Greg Williams, on a breakaway pass from junior Drew Lear. He would score again on a breakaway from an assist by senior Bryan Cocciolo to give the Dolphins a 2-0 advantage.

Dolphins' assistant coach, Jamie Holmes, scored off a deflection to open the third period for the BASL team, but the JU defense held off the late comeback to secure the win.

Redshirt senior Chad Comroe, sophomore Joey Sanchez and freshman Matt Gilman combined for seven saves in the Dolphins' goal. Williams notched six saves for the BASL all-stars.

"I want to get 100 percent better for each of our exhibitions," said Johnson. "We have to get more precise and make sure our chemistry is right going into the season. Tonight was an exhibition, but we always play to win."

The Dolphins play their second exhibition on Friday against FIT-Melbourne at 1 p.m. They play their final preseason match against Barry University on Saturday at the Ashley Sports Complex. starting at 2 p.m.
