Men's soccer and Winthrop battles to 3-3 tie at Wingate Inn Classic

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Jacksonville University men's soccer team scored three first-half goals, but Winthrop recorded a last second goal to force a 3-3 tie on Friday night at the Wingate Inn Classic in Rock Hill S.C.

"Soccer is just a crazy game sometimes," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "We did a get job offensively, but couldn't manage to come away with the win. We need to continue playing hard, like we have, to stay on the right track."

Senior Tommy Krizanovic, the reigning Atlantic Sun Offensive "Player of the Week," gave the Dolphins (2-4-1) an early 1-0 lead by scoring on a volley off a cross from Philipp Meyner less than six minutes in to the game.

The Eagles (5-1-1) answered by getting goals Daniel Revivio and Saidi Issac to take a 2-1 advantage.

Meyner tied the game with his first goal of the season at the 33-minute mark off a free kick from 25-yards out.

Krizanovic scored his 11th goal of the season to put the Dolphins ahead at 3-2 with less than five seconds remaining in the first half.

At the 85-minute mark, the Eagles scored on a free kick from David Kenga to send it into overtime.

The Eagles tallied seven shots during the overtime period, while the Dolphins managed one shot in the second overtime frame.

The Dolphins finish the Wingate Inn Classic on Saturday against Radford at 2 p.m.
