Sept. 24, 2006
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Former Atlantic Sun rival Florida Atlantic scored late in second-half to sink the Jacksonville University men's soccer team, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at the Ashley Sports Complex.
With the score deadlocked at zero, Javier Carillo knocked a ball in the top of the net to give the Owls (3-5-1) the game-winning goal with less than seven minutes left in the game.
"We have to find a way to win," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "We lost a few key guys to injury and we need some of bench guys to step up. Our team will work some things out in practice this week before we head into conference play on Saturday."
The Owls held the Dolphins (2-6-1) offense to a season-low seven shots. Senior Tommy Krizanovic led the team with two shots, while senior Chad Comore added four saves in goal.
The Dolphins open the 2006 A-Sun schedule on Saturday at cross-town rival North Florida with kickoff set for 5 p.m. JU will be in search of its third consecutive Dennis Violett Memorial Cup against UNF and will also look to tie the standings in the second annual SunTrust River City Rumble battle.
