Men's soccer falls in A-Sun finale to Stetson, 1-0

DeLAND, Fla. - - Stetson used a first-half goal to down the Jacksonville University men's soccer team, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in the Atlantic Sun Conference finale at the Stetson Soccer Complex.

The Hatters' (6-9-2, 5-0-2 A-Sun) victory gives them their first undefeated conference season, while the Dolphins (5-10-1, 3-4 A-Sun) earned the fifth seed at the A-Sun tournament in DeLand, Fla. and will face fourth seeded Belmont in the first round on Thursday, Nov. 2.

"A victory just wasn't in the cards today," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "We played well, but couldn't quite do enough to get the win. Our team looks forward to facing Georgia Southern on Tuesday and getting ready for the A-Sun tournament."

Victor Webb gave the Hatters the game-winning goal after he scored off a deflection in front of the goal at the 28-minute mark of the first half.

The Dolphins recorded eight of their 11 shots in the second half, but the Hatters defense, led by goalie Alssandro Barcherini, held them scoreless to secure the win.

Sophomore Ramak Niakan safi tallied three shots for the Dolphins, while senior Chad Comroe made four saves in goal.

JU will play its regular season finale at the Ashley Sports Complex against Georgia Southern on Tuesday. Kickoff set for 7 p.m.
