DeLAND, Fla. - Sophomore Ramak Niakan safi scored his third goal of the season just before halftime to help the Jacksonville University men's soccer team defeat No. 5 Belmont, 1-0, on Thursday night in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.

The win propels the No. 5 Dolphins (7-10-1) to their first A-Sun semifinal since 2002 and will face No. 1 Stetson on Friday at 7 p.m.

"Tonight was a great win," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "We have challenged ourselves to get better on defense this season and we have done so because of great team effort. Our team looks forward to a tough challenge against Stetson on Friday."

Niakan safi slammed home the game-winning goal into the left post less than five minutes before the half on a pass from conference player of the year, Tommy Krizanovic.

After the goal, the Dolphins defense stole the show by limiting the Bruins (7-9-2) to only eights shots.

Sophomore Patrik Werner, a second-team all-conference selection, led the defensive backline, while senior Chad Comroe had four saves in goal to secure his fifth shutout of the season.
