DeLAND, Fla. - Junior Anton Axelsson scored his eighth goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as No. 1 Stetson defeated the Jacksonville University men's soccer team, 2-1, on Friday night in the Atlantic Sun Conference Semifinals at the Stetson Soccer Complex.

The No. 5 Dolphins wrapped the 2006 season with a 7-11-1 record, while the Hatters (7-10-2) advance to the A-Sun tournament final on Saturday to face No. 2 Gardner-Webb.

"It was a tough way to end the season," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "Our team played their hearts out tonight. I felt like we had a lot of momentum heading into the tournament, but couldn't get that to earn the win in this match.

"Our team will rest for a short time and then we will start working towards the 2007 season."

The Hatters got a 1-0 lead from Tanner Wolfe, who scored on a free kick just before the half.

Axelsson evened the match for the Dolphins in the second half, but the Hatters' Kevin Munz scored at the 69th minute mark after a goal kick to secure the win.

Senior Tommy Krizanovic led the Dolphins with five shots, while senior Chad Comroe had a save and senior Greg Roytman saw significant time of the bench.

"All three of our seniors will be sorely missed," said Johnson. "Tommy's scoring shoes will be tough to fill, while Chad helped tutored our younger goalies and Greg was a team player. We will need some guys to step up and fill those roles."
