Men's Tennis defeats Georgia Southern, 6-1

STATESBORO, Ga. - The JU men's tennis team won 5-of-6 singles matches and captured the double point to earn its first win of the season ending Georgia Southern's three-match winning streak, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the GSU Hanner Courts.
JU (1-3) sophomore Martin Hehensteiger (Schechen, Germany) won at No. 1 singles in two sets defeating Doruk Baglan, 6-3, 7-6 (7), while freshman Neil Sehgal (Cincinnati, Ohio) who took the No. 6 singles match defeated Will Moseley, 7-6 (3), 6-2. Junior Ben Birkmann (Bremen, Germany) won at No. 2 singles over Danie van den Heever. Also taking singles matches were freshman Peter Wietrak (Bensalem, Pa.) over Tom Green at No. 3 (6-4, 5-7, 6-4) and junior Christoph Mueller (Waldsassen, Germany) beat Lasha Janashia at No. 4 (4-6, 6-1, 7-6). Georgia Southern (3-5) took its lone point in the No. 5 singles match where Charles-Henri Trottet defeated Andres Rojas, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Hehensteiger and Seghal combined to defeat Dubienski and Baglan at No. 2 doubles, 8-6, while Rojas and Wietrak took No. 3 doubles defeating Green and Knorr, 8-6.
JU will play Savannah State on Saturday, Feb. 14 at noon at the Alexander Brest Tennis Complex.
