Dolphins fall to North Florida, 7-0 Feb. 22, 2006
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to cross town rival North Florida on Tuesday in the SunTrust River City Rumble. Jacksonville's closest call to a point came in the No. 1 singles match as Marcos Oliveira fell to Eduard Pereira, 6-3, 6-4. "We fought hard but we couldn't come up with the points at key times," said JU head coach Jarod Camerota. The match started with UNF winning the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. Oliveira and Clay Garrett fell to Leonardo Gomes and German Escallon in the No. 1 match, 8-1. Cory Garrett and Nathan Conner fell in the No. 2 doubles match for JU to Jose Terrera and Matias Sigal, 8-0. Glen Marshall and Eduardo Pereira knocked off JU's Tyler Thomas and Tim Newman, 8-1, in the No. 3 match. The Dolphins struggled in the singles action after Oliveira's effort. Clay Garrett fell in the No. 2 match, 6-0, 6-1. Cory Garrett fell 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 match while Nathan Conner fell 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 match. Tim Newman fell in the No. 5 match, 6-0, 6-0, with Tyler Thomas falling by the same margin in the No. 6 match. The Dolphins are back in action again on Saturday, Feb. 25, against Steson. First serve is set for 1 p.m. in DeLand, Fla. |
