Kayla Shavers
Following a strong career for the Dolphins, Kayla Shavers is taking her talents to the dugout this season as a student assistant coach.

Shavers, from Largo, Fla., played in 62 games for JU, including 54 starts as a utility player in her freshman and sophomore years.

In 2010, she was third in doubles with eight and tied for second in home runs and recorded a seven-game hit streak. She also was named A-Sun Player of the Week after hitting .529 with eight RBI in five games. In her freshman season, Shavers started 27 games, recorded her first collegiate hit and had the game winning RBI in a contest against Georgia Southern.

At Osceola High in Largo, she was a four-year letter winner and hit .455 her senior season and was named the schools female Athlete of the Year. Sh ealso played for the Team Florida 18U Gold and helpt the team qualify for the ASA 18U Gold Nationals in 2006.

2011: Sat out the season as a medical redshirt … earned A-Sun all-academic honors.

2010: Played in 32 games, including 27 starts as a sophomore … ranked third in doubles (8) and tied for second in home runs (2) … recorded a hit in seven straight games (3/7-19) … went 5-for-8 with five RBI and two doubles in the doubleheader sweep vs. Toledo (3/10) … had game-winning inside the park homer vs. Charleston Southern (3/14) … named A-Sun Player of the Week on March 15 after batting .529 with eight RBI in five contests … recorded two RBI in game one vs. FAMU (3/23) … homered in game one at UNF (4/6) ... missed the final 12 games of the season due to a shoulder injury.

2009: Appeared in 30 games, including 27 starts as a freshman … recorded first collegiate hit against Auburn (2/6) … had a run-scoring double in the win over Marist (2/28) … also scored twice in the victory against the Red Foxes (3/1) the following day…went a season best 2-for-3 with an RBI in win over Coastal Carolina (2/27) … had the game-winning single in extra innings at Georgia Southern (3/3).

High School: Four-year letter winner at Osceola High School in Largo, Fla. under William Rasmussen … hit .455 as a senior en route to earning female Athlete of the Year honors by her school … as a junior, she recorded the highest batting average in Pinellas County (.578) to receive first team all-Pinellas County accolades, while also receiving offensive MVP honors … helped the Warriors to a district title as a sophomore, batting .387… voted defensive MVP during sophomore campaign and earned first team South County honors … sat out her freshman season due to patella realignment surgery … also was a two-year starter on the Warriors’ swimming team … played traveling softball for the Team FLA 18U Gold … helped team qualify for the ASA 18U Gold Nationals in 2006.
