Softball's Bridget Starry Earns A-Sun Pitcher-of-the-Week Honors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University junior pitcher Bridget Starry (San Diego, Calif.) was named Atlantic Sun Softball Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday. Starry finished 2-0 for the week, leading the Dolphins to wins over Hofstra and Kent State at the USF/Wilson Invitational hosted by South Florida in Tampa, Fla.

Starry (3-2) pitched a complete-game one-hitter against the Pride in the Dolphins' first game at the USF/Wilson Invitational Saturday leading JU to its second victory of the season. She struck out eight batters, while not allowing a walk and also went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI. In the Dolphins' final game Monday against Kent State, Starry pitched her second-consecutive complete game, a four-hit shutout, in leading the Dolphins to their first ever shutout victory.

For the week, Starry finished 3-for-10 (.300) at the plate with two runs scored, an RBI, four walks and a double. Starry leads the team with a 1.95 ERA and 24 strikeouts. She is also second on the team with a .323 batting average and four RBI.

JU (3-8) travels to Daytona Beach, Fla., for a doubleheader against Bethune-Cookman Wednesday afternoon at Sunnyland Park at 4:00 p.m.
