Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University freshman Ashley Houston (Glen St. Mary, Fla.) delivered a two-out game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Dolphins to a 1-0 shutout over Georgia State in game two of a doubleheader in Atlantic Sun action Wednesday afternoon at the JU Softball Complex. Freshman Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout, to earn her third-consecutive victory. The Lady Panthers won game one, 2-0. JU improves to 9-11 overall, 3-1 in A-Sun play.

Freshman Lisa Dronkers (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) led off the ninth inning with a walk and later advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Melissa Coburn (Crystal River, Fla.). Junior Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) singled to center field putting runners on the corners for the Dolphins with one out, but freshman Jill Bandhauer (Crystal River, Fla.) was called for the second out after re-entering the game illegally. With two outs, Houston hit a perfect ball just in front of Lady Panthers' catcher Stephanie Dyble, who's only play was at home, but she was unable to reach the plate to tag Dronkers, who sprinted past Dyble to score the game-winning run.

Dobson (3-7) did not allow a hit until the fifth inning in pitching her sixth-straight complete game, while recording five strikeouts. Houston finished 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Dianna Korcak (Clearwater, Fla.), Janine Palumbo (Palm Harbor, Fla.), Coburn, Cadarette and Ronda Campo (Kirkland, Wash.) each had a hit to lead the Dolphins in game two.

In the opening game, lead-off hitter Katie Blue broke a scoreless tie in the third with a solo blast to left field to put the Lady Panthers out in front 1-0. Georgia State extended its lead in the fifth as Jennifer Hester scored on an error from third basemen Cadarette to make it 2-0.

Lady Panthers' starter Andrea McNary scattered three hits and struck out five to earn the complete-game victory.

Houston went 2-for-3, while Cadarette finished 1-for-3 with a double to lead JU offensively. Bridget Starry (San Diego, Calif.) (4-4) earned the loss, pitching a complete game, giving up one earned run and striking out five.

JU returns to action Friday hosting the Campbell Fighting Camels in an Atlantic Sun doubleheader at the JU Softball Complex at 1 p.m.
