March 8, 2003
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Campbell in Atlantic Sun action Saturday afternoon at the JU Softball Complex. Freshman Jill Bandhauer (Crystal River, Fla.) led the Dolphins offensively in game one, finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double, while Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) went 2-for-3 with a double. Bandhauer, Janine Palumbo (Palm Harbor, Fla.) and junior Dianna Korcak (Clearwater, Fla.) led JU in game two with a hit apiece. The Dolphins fall to 9-13 overall, 3-3 in Atlantic Sun play.
JU jumped out to an early lead in game one as Korcak led off the game with a single up the middle and Palumbo followed with a walk. After Korcak advanced to third on a fielder's choice from Bridget Starry (San Diego), Bandhauer doubled to center, scoring Korcak to give the Dolphins a 1-0 advantage. The Fighting Camels got things going in the second when Shannon O'Bryan led off the inning with a triple and later scored on an error from Korcak to tie the game, 1-1. Two batters later, Amy Anderson put Campbell ahead for good with a two-run double to make it 3-1 Campbell.
Fighting Camels' starter Holly Harris scattered five hits and struck out four en route to earning the complete-game victory.
Korcak finished 1-for-4 with a run, while Starry (4-5) went 1-for-3 at the plate, but earned the loss giving up three runs, one earned, while striking out two.
In the second game, the Fighting Camels scored three runs in the opening frame and four in the sixth to defeat JU, 7-1. Campbell starter Lexi Myers allowed three hits over 7.0 innings of work to pick up the victory.
The Dolphins scored their only run in the third inning as Ashley Houston (Glen St. Mary, Fla.) drew a one-out walk and Korcak followed with an infield single. Palumbo grounded out, moving the runners to second and third and Houston was able to score when Myers uncorked a wild pitch to make it 3-1. Freshman Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.), who had won her last three decisions, earned the loss, giving up seven runs, three earned, while striking out five.
JU returns to action Sunday hosting the Austin Peay Lady Govs in a non-conference doubleheader at the JU Softball Complex at 1 p.m.
