Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University freshman Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) earned back-to-back complete-game victories and struck out a combined 20 batters, 10 in each game, to lead the Dolphins past Morris Brown, 6-1 and 9-1 in five innings, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the JU Softball Complex. Freshman Jill Bandhauer (Crystal River, Fla.) led JU offensively with five hits and three RBI in the two games as the Dolphins improved to 19-25 overall on the season.

Junior Bridget Starry (San Diego, Calif.) finished with three hits, an RBI and a run scored in the doubleheader, while freshman Janine Palumbo (Palm Harbor, Fla.), first baseman Ronda Campo (Kirkland, Wash.) and freshman Ashley Houston (Glen St. Mary, Fla.) each added two hits. In the series opener, the Lady Wolverines struck first with a run in the opening frame as Jade Roebuck scored on a passed ball after she singled and stole second and third to give Morris Brown a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Wolverines lead would be short lived as the Dolphins scored four runs in the second inning, all with two outs. Houston got things going with a single and later scored on a double from Dobson. Campo added a single and junior Monica McGee (Strake, Fla.) followed with a bunt single to third, but Cristal Malone's throw to first skipped away and Houston, Campo and McGee all came around to score to give JU a 4-1 advantage.

The Dolphins added to their lead in the third as Bandhauer led off with a single and later advanced to third on a pair of sacrifice bunts from junior Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) and Houston and eventually scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-1. Cadarette added an RBI single in the fourth to plate Starry to give the Dolphins a five-run cushion.

Dobson allowed just three hits in 7.0 innings of work with 10 strikeouts to eclipse 100 for the season, while finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI, a double and a run scored.

Morris Brown once again took an early lead in the nightcap as Jade Roebuck reached home in the first inning on a double steal attempt to make it 1-0. The Dolphins countered in the bottom half of the inning as shortstop Dianna Korcak (Clearwater, Fla.) led off with a walk and later advanced to second on a passed ball. Palumbo followed with a walk and Starry moved the runners to second and third with a sac bunt with just one out. Bandhauer delivered a two-run double through the left side to make it 2-1 and Houston hit a two-out RBI single to score Bandhauer. A throwing error on shortstop Kelly Gordon allowed Houston to score to give JU a 4-1 margin.

JU put the game out of reach in the fourth as Starry delivered an RBI double and Bandhauer, freshman Melissa Coburn (Crystal River, Fla.), Dobson and Campo each added RBI singles to make it 9-1 to give the Dolphins an eight-run lead forcing the game to be halted after the fifth inning.

Dobson (7-16) picked up her second-straight win recording 10 strikeouts, five straight at one point, while going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

JU finishes its eight-game homestand tomorrow when its hosts the Mercer Bears in an Atlantic Sun doubleheader at the JU Softball Complex at 12:00 p.m.
