Softball Opens Play at JU Fall Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU softball team went a perfect 3-0 on the day in the second annual JU Fall Classic Sunday. The Dolphins defeated Coastal Georgia Community College, 7-2, before taking a pair of games against FCCJ, 4-3 and 13-2, respectively. JU played under the lights for the first time at the newly renovated JU Softball Complex.

Freshman Katie Buell (Alpharetta, Ga.) picked up the victory in game one going seven innings, while striking out two. Junior Stacey Bell (Jacksonville/Terry Parker) went the distance in game two, and struck out five batters, while sophomore Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) tossed a gem in game three, allowing just two runs on three hits. Dobson also had eight strikeouts and retired 17 batters in a row at one point.

Senior shortstop Dianna Korcak (Clearwater, Fla.) led the Dolphins offensively, going 8-for-10 on the day, while scoring five runs. Senior third baseman Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) also performed well at the plate, going 5-for-8 with three RBI.

The Dolphins open their 2004 season when they play a doubleheader at Savannah State on Feb. 4 at 1:00 pm.
