CLEARWATER, Fla. - Freshman Katie Buell (Alpharetta, Ga.) allowed three runs on five hits in 2.0 innings of work in a 4-1 loss to 14th-ranked Oregon at the Speedline Invitational in Clearwater. The Dolphins could not hold on to an early 1-0 lead as the Ducks played small ball with two runs on three hits in the top of the second to grab the lead for good. JU (8-16) managed just two hits, while Oregon (16-4) added single runs in the third and fourth, including a solo homer by Jenn Poore in the top of the fourth inning. The Dolphins also lost to Temple (3-8) in the second game of the day, 5-1, despite two hits from sophomore Kacey Yourous (Radcliff, Ky.).

Junior righthander Stacey Bell (Jacksonville/Terry Parker) came on in relief against Oregon to allow just one run on two hits for the Dolphins, who took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a RBI single by Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville/Sandalwood). Amy Harris (3-1) earned the win for the Ducks with a complete-game two hitter.

JU managed to tie the game with Temple 1-1 in the top of the fifth, but starter Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) surrendered two runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings against Owls. Following a lead-off walk and sacrifice bunt in the fifth, Dobson allowed three consecutive singles as Temple regained the lead, 3-1. The Owls added two more runs in the sixth with a two-out rally, which included a pair of hits and a costly two-run error by Yourous in right field.

The Dolphins return to action against Northwestern at 3 p.m. Saturday in the final game of pool play.
