March 14, 2004
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Senior shortstop Dianna Korcak (Clearwater, Fla.) went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, while Kacey Yourous (Radcliffe, Ky.) and Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) each drove in two runs as JU played its best game of the season in a 6-1 win over Southern Utah in the final game of the UNLV Classic in Las Vegas. The Dolphins, who have played 29 of their first 31 games away from home, return home to begin an 8-game homestand on Wednesday vs. Lipscomb at 4 p.m. JU (10-21) pounded out 11 hits and made a half-dozen spectacular plays in the field, while sophomore righthander Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) scattered five hits and struck out five in the complete-game victory.
Junior left fielder Mayte Diaz (Silver Springs, Fla.) also had a pair of hits and an RBI, while Dobson helped herself with a run-scoring double. On the mound, Dobson allowed one run in the top of the first, but shut down the Thunderbirds the final six innings. Trailing 1-0 in the first, the Dolphins exploded for three runs on an RBI single by Diaz and a run-scoring double by Dobson. JU added three more runs in the fourth thanks to a walk by Ronda Campo (Kirkland, Wash.) and back-to-back singles by Korcak and Yourous. Cadarette completed with a two-run triple down the right field line.
