JU Softball Splits Doubleheader With Lipscomb

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville, Fla.) had a two run home run and sophomore pitcher Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) pitched a compete-game five hitter as the Dolphins defeated Lipscomb 6-2, Wednesday night in the second game of a doubleheader. The Bisons (11-19, 1-5 A-Sun) won the first game, 5-1, behind a two out grand slam from Jennifer Cannon in the top of the seventh. The Dolphins (11-22, 2-2 A-Sun) played at home for the first time in 18 games.

JU senior Monica McGee (Starke, Fla.) two-out single in the first keep the inning alive for the Dolphins. After the McGee single, Sonja Cadarette hit her team-leading fourth homer to give the Dolphins an early 2-0 lead. JU added two runs in the fifth where senior Dianna Korcak (Clearwater, Fla.) hit her third triple in four games to left centerfield allowing sophomore Ashley Houston (Glen St. Mary, Fla.) to score from first after she walked. JU pinch hitter Melissa Coburn (Crystal River, Fla.) would single after the triple allowing Korcak to score. The Dolphins also added two runs in the sixth after a Houston sac bunt where Lipscomb had two errors on the play helping junior Mayte Diaz (Silver Springs, Fla.) and Ashley Houston to score with two outs.

Lipscomb scored in the fourth and sixth. Lipscomb scored in the fourth off an error by second baseman Ashley Houston allowing Julia Davidson to score from third. In the sixth, Jennifer Cannon hit a two out solo home run to left field off of Dobson to give the Bisons their second and final run.

Sophomore Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) earned the win in game two pitching a complete game, striking out six batters while junior Stacey Bell (Jacksonville, Fla.) suffered the loss in game one in relief of Dobson.

JU returns to action at home tomorrow against #19 Florida in a single game starting at 6:00 p.m.
