Softball Loses to Arkansas, 2-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Arkansas used a four hit rally in the sixth, including a triple and double, to defeat JU, 2-1, Friday afternoon at the JU Softball Complex. JU junior Stacey Bell (Jacksonville, Fla.) had a career-high seven strikeouts and a no hitter for six innings in the loss. Arkansas (9-14) gets their first win in nine games behind a complete game effort from senior Heather Schlichtman who struck out eight Dolphin batters. The Dolphins (11-24) lose for the third time in four games after spending the first 29 of 34 games on the road this season.

The Dolphins led, 1-0, in the sixth when Razorback centerfielder Candice Swan broke a Bell no-hitter with a double to left field. Next, third baseman Blaire Perry tripled to right center field and scored Swan from second to tie the game. Bell would then be relieved by JU sophomore Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.). Dobson would surrender a hit by Razorback sophomore Mindy O'Malley that would score Perry from third and seal the Dolphins' fate.

JU scored in the bottom of the fifth when senior Dianna Korcak (Clearwater, Fla.) tripled to right field, scoring sophomore Janine Palumbo (Clearwater, Fla.) from first. This was Korcak's fourth triple in six games and her eighth for season. Korcak lead all Dolphin hitters going 2-for-3 with an RBI while Bell set a new career high in strikeouts with seven, breaking her old record of six.

The Dolphins play host to UCF on Sunday in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
