Softball Swept By Mercer, 6-0 and 5-2

MACON, Ga. - Senior shortstop Dianna Korcak (Clearwater, Fla.) went 3-for-6 with an RBI and junior left fielder Mayte Diaz (Silver Springs, Fla.) had two hits in game one, but it wasn't enough as JU was swept by Mercer, 6-0 and 5-2, in an Atlantic Sun doubleheader at Sikes Field in Macon on Sunday afternoon. Korcak's three hits place her in a tie for first in Atlantic Sun with 54 hits. Mercer (24-19, 7-1 A-Sun) pounded out 23 hits in the two games off the Dolphin pitching staff, while JU (13-30, 3-7 A-Sun) has now lost three of its last four conference games.
Mercer scored five runs on five-hits in the third inning of game one. JU righthander Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) suffered the loss allowing five runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings of work. Junior righthander Stacey Bell (Jacksonville/Terry Parker) allowed one run on three hits in 3.0 innings of relief. JU managed five hits and left six runners on base in the opener.
Mercer led 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth in game two when the Bears broke off a three run, five-hit inning against freshman righthander Katie Buell (Alpharettea, Ga.). Buell sufferd the loss allowing four runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings pitched. JU scored in the fifth when Korcak singled up the middle to plate junior right fielder Kacey Yourous (Radcliff, Ky.), while freshman Stephanie Beasley (Tallahassee, Fla.) drove in senior third baseman Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) in the sixth. JU stranded 13 runners in the two losses.
JU travels to play South Carolina State this Wednesday in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
