Softball Swept by Stetson, 4-2 and 3-2

DELAND, Fla. - Senior third baseman Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) hit two home runs and had three RBI, but it wasn't enough as JU was swept in an Atlantic Sun doubleheader against Stetson, 4-2 and 3-2, in DeLand on Saturday afternoon. Cadarette homers improve her team lead to seven. Stetson (37-7, 9-1 A-Sun) has won seven out of the last eight conference games, while JU (15-36, 4-10) has now lost six out of eight in conference.
JU scored twice in game one. Senior second baseman Ronda Campo (Shoreline, Wash.) singled in the second inning to left center driving in sophomore catcher Janine Palumbo (Clearwater, Fla.) to narrow the Hatters lead to 2-1. Stetson scored again in the bottom of the inning from a base loaded walk and in the fifth from a solo home run from junior Hatter Sherrilynn Wilder off sophomore pitcher Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.). Dobson allowed four runs off six hits and struck out six batters. Cadarette added a solo home run in the seventh, but the Hatters still came away with a 4-2 win.
Stetson scored early in the first inning of game two from a throwing error by junior righthander Stacey Bell (Jacksonville/Terry Parker) giving the Hatters a 2-0 lead. Cadarette blasted her seventh home run in the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. Left fielder Brittani Houghton singled home Wilder in the sixth for the game-winning RBI. Bell suffered the loss in game two allowing eight hits and one earned run in six innings.
Cadarette and Campo each had three hits on the day, while junior first baseman Lauren Redfern (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) had two hits in game two. JU stranded 18 runners on base in the two games.
JU returns home on Monday April 12 to play in a doubleheader against Webber International at 4:00 p.m
