Softball falls to No. 17 South Florida, 5-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - South Florida starter Leigh Ann Ellis threw six scoreless innings to help the Bulls pull past the Dolphins, 5-0, Wednesday night in the season finale at the JU Softball Complex. The Bulls (51-10) scored five runs on eight hits, while JU center fielder Monica McGee (Starke, Fla.) picked up the only hit for the Dolphins. The Dolphins (22-42, 5-15 A-Sun) played nine games against teams ranked in the top-25 this season.
The Bulls got an early lead in the second inning scoring one run off a bases-loaded walk from JU starter Stacey Bell (Jacksonville/Terry Parker). South Florida later scored two runs off righthander Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) from a home run and RBI single. Righthander Katie Buell (Alpharettea, Ga.) came in relief of Dobson and pitched a scoreless inning before giving up two runs in the seventh. Bell suffered the loss for JU allowing one run off two hits in 2.0 innings pitched. Dobson and Buell allowed two runs apiece in a combined 5.0 innings of relief. McGee picked up the only hit for the Dolphins off Ellis, who picked up her 35th win of the season.
