JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman Shannon Jensen (Callahan, Fla.) toss her fourth career shutout while junior Kacey Yourous (Hardin, Ky.) had an RBI single as the JU softball team managed a split in a crucial Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader against Stetson at the JU Softball Complex Wednesday evening. The Hatters (32-17, 10-6 A-Sun) took the first game, 7-3, before JU rebounded for the 1-0 win in the nightcap.

Junior centerfielder Katie Pestrak (Gainesville, Fla.) led the Dolphins (28-27, 7-8 A-Sun) with four hits, an RBI and a run scored on the day. Junior second baseman Ashley Houston (Glen St. Mary's, Fla.) went 3-for-5 during the twinbill, while Yourous tallied three hits and two RBI on the night.

The Dolphins took game two with a run in the sixth when Yourous slapped a 1-0 pitch down the left field line to plate Jensen. JU had a chance for more with runners at second and third and one out, but Hatter starter Jennifer Buckley got a strikeout and a groundout to get out of the jam.

Stetson had a chance in the seventh as Sherilynn Wilder led off the inning with a single, but she was gunned down by senior leftfielder Mayte Diaz (Silver Springs, Fla.) trying to stretch the hit into a double. The Hatters then got a two-out single from Shawna Wiggs and saw Melissa Wiggins, the conference's top hitter, reach on a free pass. But Jensen buckled down and got Lindsay Wightman to ground out to shortstop to end the game.

Jensen (10-9) scattered eight hits over 7.0 innings, walking three while striking out five for her third shutout in A-Sun play. Buckley (5-5) gave up one run on seven hits in 6.0 innings to pick up the loss.

"Shannon (Jensen) was money tonight," JU head coach Jeff Franquet said. "Kacey (Yourous) and KP (Katie Pestrak) were on fire tonight, getting some big hits for us.

"It was great for us to get a win on Senior Day. We hope we can pick up a couple more this weekend."

In game one, JU took a 2-1 lead in the fourth as Yourous doubled home Pestrak, who singled and stole second to advance into scoring position. Stetson rebounded with three runs in both the fifth and sixth, getting the runs in the fifth on Jessica King's single. Wiggins hit a three-run shot in the sixth, her 10th of the season, to put the Hatters up 7-2.

The Dolphins tried to come back in the seventh, getting an two-out RBI single from senior Lauren Redfern (Jacksonville/Sandalwood). But Stetson's Brittany Houghton got Jensen to fly out to left to end the game, 7-3.

The Hatters jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the contest when Houghton scored on an error. JU tied it up in the bottom half of the inning, getting an RBI single from Pestrak to drive home Farabee.

Junior Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) struck out five in 7.0 innings, giving up 10 hits and seven runs, four earned, in the loss to fall to 13-14. Houghton (18-8) tossed 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out 14 for the win.
