SAVANNAH, Ga. - Sophomore Katie Buell (Alpharetta, Ga.) threw her third career perfect game in game two while junior Janine Palumbo (Clearwater, Fla.) tied the Dolphin single-game record by scoring five runs in the first game as the JU softball team shut down Savannah State, 21-0 and 13-0, Thursday afternoon at the Paulson Softball Complex. Junior Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) tossed her seventh career no-hitter in game one, while freshman Jillian Mirante (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) and junior Lindsey Freitag (Lake Stevens, Wash.) both drove in three runs in the second game.

In game one, the Dolphins had two big innings, scoring seven in the second before plating 10 in the third. Senior Lauren Redfern (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) led the attack, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. Palumbo, freshman Shannon Jensen (Callahan, Fla.) and junior Stephanie Farabee (Jacksonville/Arlington Country Day) all went 3-for-5. Palumbo had two doubles and two RBI, while Jensen had a three-run shot to left, her third of the year, as part of her five RBI.

Senior Mayte Diaz (Silver Springs, Fla.) also had five RBI while going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a triple.

Dobson (14-15) struck out eight of the 10 Lady Tiger batters she faced while walking one in 3.0 innings of work. Jensen tossed the last 2.0 innings, fanning four of the six hitters she encountered.

Mirante and Diaz led JU in the second game, both getting two hits and two runs scored. Mirante drove home three runs while scoring twice. Diaz went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Redfern added another double, her Atlantic Sun Conference-leading 23rd on the year.

The Dolphins pulled away in the first, scoring six, while adding three runs in the third and four in the fifth. Freitag added three RBI, while Jensen drove in two with a pinch-hit RBI single in the third. Junior Katie Pestrak (Gainesville, Fla.) went 3-for-8 in the doubleheader and extended her hitting streak to 12 games.

Buell (5-4) went 5.0 innings, fanning five in her third career perfect game and her third shutout of the season.

The Dolphins close out their season series with the Lady Tigers of Savannah State Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the JU Softball Complex.
