JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Mayte Diaz (Silver Springs, Fla.) went 4-for-6 on the afternoon with a double while fellow senior Lauren Redfern (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) added two doubles on a 4-for-6 day as the Dolphins swept Savannah State, 8-0 and 12-1, in a doubleheader Friday afternoon at the JU Softball Complex. JU moved to 34-28 on the year, while Savannah State closed out their season at 0-27.

Freshman Shannon Jensen (Callahan, Fla.) drove in five runs on the day while going 4-for-5 at the plate with a double in the two games. Junior Stephanie Farabee (Jacksonville/Arlington Country Day) added two runs in a 4-for-7 outing, while junior Katie Pestrak (Gainesville, Fla.) was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored in the twinbill, extending her hitting streak to a team-high 14 games.

Game one saw the Dolphins jump out early, getting five runs in the first thanks to back-to-back two-RBI doubles by Pestrak and Jensen and an RBI single by junior Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.). JU added another in the second on a junior Janine Palumbo (Clearwater, Fla.) sacrifice fly, bringing home senior Jamie Ross (Shoreline, Wash.). They capped the scoring in the fourth as Redfern followed Palumbo's triple with a RBI double and Jensen plated Redfern with an RBI single.

Dobson (15-15) got the win, going 3.0 innings, walking two while striking out seven.

In game two, the Dolphins got six runs in the second while plating four more in the fourth. Junior Ashley Houston (Glen St. Mary's, Fla.) started the scoring in the second, tripling home Ross and Diaz. Later, a Jensen single brought home Redfern while junior Kacey Yourous (Radcliff, Ky.) had a two-RBI double to end the scoring. In the fourth, a Yourous sacrifice fly plated Redfern, while Ross drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Pestrak. Freshman Jillian Mirante (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) then hit a two-RBI double to cap the scoring and give JU the 12-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers then scored their lone run against JU as Laneisha Craig led off the fifth with a double. A wild pitch moved her to third, and she scored on Alicia Pierce's grounder to second.

Sophomore Katie Buell (Alpharetta, Ga.) allowed one run on one hit in 5.0 innings while striking out five for her sixth win of the year.

JU closes out the regular season Sunday, May 1, with a doubleheader against Florida Atlantic. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at FAU Field.
