TAMPA, Fla. - Senior starting pitcher Adrienne Lathrop hurled 6-2/3 hitless innings to help Western Kentucky defeat the Jacksonville University softball team, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in the final day of the USF/Best Western Invitational in Tampa, Fla.

"Offensively, we just took too long to get started, but we made some good strides defensively today," said JU head coach Melissa Gentile. "We have some areas that we have to work on and I anticipate us having a great week of practice. We should be a totally different team before we come back down here next weekend."

Senior first baseman Kacey Yourous had the Dolphins (0-7) lone hit in seventh inning to spoil Lathrop's perfect game. Lathrop earned the win after fanning seven batters and allowing one walk.

The Hilltoppers (3-2) scored a run in each of the first two innings on RBI singles for the 2-0 advantage. Renikka Toliver hit a solo home run in the fourth inning off sophomore starter and eventual losing pitcher Shannon Jensen.

Jensen (0-4), surrendered three runs--two earned--on six hits in seven innings of work.

The Dolphins return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18, to compete in the USF Wilson Invitational. They open the tournament with College of Charleston at 4 p.m. and finish the day against Florida A&M at 6:30 p.m.
